Michael first encountered pilates at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts as part of his theatre degree. He hated it, but a severe back injury made him reconsider. Dori Hill of Terpsicore Pilates rebuilt him, and ended up an unlikely Pilates teacher for 12 years. He also hated cardio, but a double bypass made him reconsider a lot of things. Even cardio. Aaron Toews of Kineasiologists.ca taught him to rebuild himself. Now, he’s an unlikely Personal Trainer. No yelling guaranteed.
Rose Marie is a long-time student of Iyengar yoga taking her first class in 1987. After many stops and starts she became a serious student in 1995 when a move to Ireland brought her in contact with an Iyengar teacher in the middle of the Irish countryside! Years went by and Rose started her teacher training in Dublin and after moving back to the lower mainland continued her studies with Barbara Yates in Abbotsford, and is now a certified Iyengar yoga teacher. The practice and study of Iyengar yoga is ongoing and attending multiple workshops and classes annually is a requirement for maintaining certification. Through the Iyengar system Rose has had the opportunity to study with many national and international teachers including a month at RIMYI (Iyengar Institute) in Pune , India, where she studied with Geeta,Prashant and Abhijata Iyengar. Since 2003 Rose Marie has taught yoga classes continuously, first in the Mission, Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam Recreation Centres as well as various gyms and studios and now in our own studio, Mission Yoga and Personal Training.
